The Banque de France announces the appointment of Mathilde Schneider as Director of Communications, with effect from mid-February 2026.

“Succeeding Fabrice Hermel, this appointment is in line with the Banque de France's desire to strengthen its communication in the service of its fundamental missions: monetary strategy, financial strategy and service to the economy and society”, states the national central bank.

Mathilde Schneider has held the position of Communications Director at Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Group since 2018. “As a member of the management committee, she structured and led the global communications strategy of a public group financing sustainable development, present in over 150 countries, in a context of strong growth and expansion of its mandates.", says the press release.

Attached to the General Secretariat, its role at the Banque de France will be to “.“defining and steering the Banque de France's communication strategy, and 

and promoting its publications and historical heritage. It will support the ongoing transformation of the institution, taking care to strengthen economic education, transparency and dialogue with all sections of the public.".

A graduate of HEC Paris with over fifteen years' experience, she has also held senior positions in communications agencies, notably at Havas, as well as co-directing an independent agency. She also began her career in journalism, in France and the United States.
