While transparency on the carbon footprint of issuers is far from optimal, the use of sustainable borrowing is generating positive effects over time. The amounts raised by the private sector now exceed those of the public sector. At a time when greenwashing is on everyone's lips, several recent studies nevertheless encourage a more careful approach.
